One Year Update
Somehow, I blinked and a year went by.
If I’m being honest, not much has changed since my 6-month update. Sales of the book have slowed down significantly, mostly because I haven’t had the motivation or, frankly, the money to market it. It’s tough to promote something when that side of the process becomes such a hill to climb.
The audiobook idea ended up dying out. I got too busy to keep recording and editing, and it turned out to be way more work than I expected. I also tried out AI narration, which was fun at first… until I realized it couldn’t capture my characters’ personalities or emotions at all. AI is only so powerful right now, and it can’t trick anyone into thinking that it’s got any life behind it. Especially when it comes to my characters, I know how they talk and have a sound in my head. So that’s shelved for now.
On the writing side, I’ve made some progress on several projects, including the story I mentioned before about the man and his dog, as well as two new ones. That doesn’t even count the fantasy trilogy I’m still tinkering with. But again, the lack of motivation has been a real hurdle.
Now for the good news: I’ve connected with someone who’s interested in being an editor, and we’ve begun the early stages of working together. That fresh perspective might be the push I need to actually finish some of these half-completed books. I’ll still be continuing the Dana Lake universe with my original editor, Sarah, but bringing in a second set of eyes to look at what I create could be exactly what I need, to improve as a writer, a storyteller, and hopefully a more motivated creator.
If you’re reading this, cool. Thanks for checking out my site and this “blog” of mine. I hope you stop by again to see if I’ve made any progress.
